A 19th-century watercolor landscape on J. Whatman paper. Artist: Unknown Provenance: Unknown The landscape features a canoe wedged between rocks. Across the river in the background is an old homestead with another canoe sitting in front of it. The painting is marked "No 3" and has a watermark "J. Whatman 1885". J. Whatman is famous for his invention of wove paper in the 1750s. Before that, all paper was laid. Wove paper was more smooth and durable, resulting in better quality for printing and a reliable material for artists. Condition: Some wear to edges. Otherwise great condition. Dimensions: 12.5" x 10"
